How best to advertise my product?

I sell a type of life insurance that is more of an investment than it is typical insurance. The average commission is about 2.5K.

I'm currently studying copywriting under John Carlton with his Simple Writing Course. My instructor is Scott Haines (who is one of the best copywriters out there) and I'm getting critiques and ideas about my project from him...so I am confident I will have a converting sales page, though it might take a little bit of testing. My ad budget is 20K.

I'm trying to reach people who are nervous about the stock market and want a safe alternative. What mediums would you guys suggest for advertising online? I've been looking at adwords but I'm a little concerned that about how brief the ad has to be with them. I'm not sure I can fit my hook into so few words.

What options do you guys think I should research? What are some good alternatives to adwords where my headline can be longer?

Thanks.

If you want more freedom and the ability to have a longer and more unique pitch in your creatives you should look into display advertising.

You'd be able to create your own custom creatives, most commonly sized 300x250 or 728x90, so you're lot less restricted.

I'm a bit biased because I'm representing a network of this kind, but display advertising will give you the freedom to express yourself that you're looking for. The bigger challenge would be reaching the right audience. Since you're familiar with adwords, the google display network would be a decent place to start, but be aware that it might be hard to find quality placements there

Just for reference here's how much space you'll have to express yourself :

    728x90:

Substantially more than an adwords search ad, or a FB ad

I'd start with ppc and facebook.. Once you get an idea of your audience and what types of ads are working, move on to media buys..

You've got some good suggestions for alternatives here. I wouldn't necessarily rule out AdWords text ads and the search network. There's a learning curve with AdWords (with more than just the ad text), but there's a reason why it's one of the most popular ways to advertise online. The tight space is a pain but it's worth learning to master it. You can then send people to a landing page where you're much more free to flex your copywriting muscles
