Learning Paid Advertising

Hi Guys!

I have a question regarding Paid Advertising and using it for CPA. I am looking to learn and eventually master Paid Advertising, so I was wondering what everyone on here recommends I start with. The forms of Paid Advertising I would like to learn is PPC, Media Buying and PPV. In what order should I learn the 3 I mentioned? Should I start with PPC then move on to Media Buying and PPV?

It would be great if anyone can also tell me how I start out with those 3.

Example, For PPC - Do I start off with 7Search, then move on to Bing then Adwords?

Thanks,
Kim

    Hi Kim,

This is what I tell everyone.
No matter where you start with paid advertising, start with low budget, analyze the things, find the best converting campaigns and then scaling them up.
I would suggest you to start with 7 search as comparatively to adwords, its cheap, you would know at least the basics of how paid advertising works, once you have an idea then move to adwords.
The best thing about paid advertising is anyone who master or know paid advertising will always survive in the business as he will be able to drive traffic.
Learn and master paid advertising and you will never be out of business.
    best of luck

Thank you for your advice datingworld. For PPC you said to move on to Adwords after 7Search. Is Bing Ads worth it, or doesn't it matter which one you move on to after 7Search and having developed a good understanding of how PPC works?

I'd start with either ppc or ppv and do media buying last IMO.

For ppc I'd recommend either starting with bing or 7search

      Hi ChrisBa,

Thank you for the advice. I was just wondering why you would leave Media Buying until last?

I would start with PPC on Bing Ads or 7Search or PPV at LeadImpact, TrafficVance or 50OnRed. It is all personal preference. But pick 1 and stick with it until you are successful (making a living), they can all work fine for a beginner. Save Media Buying for later on.

Thanks Greedy. Like with ChrisBa and many others I have come across, why is it that most people recommend starting with PPC and PPV before moving onto Media Buying?

best is always to test very very small scale. Get your hands dirty so to speak, that is a good way.

Media Buying typically requires the largest budget, and the best understanding of Ad Design, Landing Page Design, and Tracking.

Ok thanks for that. I knew there had to be a reason why everyone said to work on media buying last. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I would say, go for Facebook PPC. You don't have to pay upfront, but will be billed later on and can start from as low as $5/day. Each visitor can be as cheap as $0.05 - $0.10, and don't forget that when someone 'likes' your page, their entire network of friends will also get exposed to your Facebook page. This way, you're getting more than you're paying for. Media Buying may be effective, but it's costly and there are no statistics to work on and improve. PPV, I don't really like at all. It's dirt-cheap traffic, but because it's usually pop-over or pop-under traffic, your site starts to look like a spam site. There you go, my 2 cents.

I agree with Greedy, media buying needs to have high budget.,
You can start with Facebook & Bing Ads and after then for other networks as Google Adwords.

Yeah I have been thinking about using Facebook as well, but I might stick to just PPC for now and move onto Facebook once I am more confident with PPC first. It looks like you can start with either 7Search or Bing and then move to Adwords. Better for me to learn and try to master one first right

I've played around with Facebook Ads in the past by getting people to like a fanpage of mine or direct them to my website and got some engaging visitors which was good. I'm guessing Facebook Ads requires more work for CPA as you will need a fanpage. When I tested it I got more conversions with Ads showing up in desktop feeds rather than on the side. Never tried with mobile though, but I think you need a fanpage to run those Ads.

Thanks for the advice on PPV & Media buying as well.

You can start with some cheaper tier 2 CPC networks if you decide to go the mobile route. Something like inMobi or Todacell.

Stick to a network that has the capability to really scale up campaigns, no point learning and mastering something only to reach the "ceiling" right when you start getting the hang of it.

Good suggestions above regarding good networks. But if you want to first learn how to run PPC effectively for CPA then I recommend product called Pay Per Click Formula

    Hey Kim

I would jump straight into ADWORDS, as it's probably the only big party in town. Everyting else (based on my experience) just doesnt convert as well, apart from BING. Adwords however isn't easy to figure out but it has its own rules, so its best to learn from the get go as the traffic is best. If you need some pointers just drop me a PM, happy to help. Adwords isnt easy but with the right guidance it works very well (dont worry, I never charge for anything so will always reply to a friendly few questions via PM or Email )

For PPC I'd definitely be starting with Google and FaceBook. You'll learn quicker there. Media buying is a little more advanced and you'll need a bigger budget to get things working.

Thanks AffEngineer. Right now I have an account with 7Search & Adwords and I have used Facebook Ads briefly in the past before.

From the advice I've been given I will probably leave 7Search and look at Bing, Adwords & Facebook more.

Right now go with Facebook or 7search to start. Adwords is good but way more expensive. You need a large payout type offer to make it work.

Thanks PPC-Coach. From what I've seen the majority recommend Facebook, 7Search & Bing.

Interesting that you mentioned you need large payout offers to make Adwords work. I'm guessing this is due to the high volume of traffic and more expensive bids.
