Is adwords is too complicated?

Hi,

I'm running ads on twitter and facebook. I really like the set up, twitter is a little too expensive but other than that I am able to create, target, and get results with my ads pretty easily.

But then I try adwords and I can't even get started! It seems way too complicated, am I dumb or is this true?

I like Adwords the best. Just take a few hours to watch a tutorial on it. I can understand how the layout maybe a bit overwhelming at first, but it is well worth mastering.

What kind of ads are you running on Twitter? Are you using their internal ad service and getting good results? Also, Adwords being complicated is a good thing - it means more flexibility and control for you, once you figure it out. Youtube walkthroughs might be a good start. Just be careful to avoid listening to the account rep's advice - they have nothing but bad advice, designed to make them money from you.

I'm just running ads to get followers, I don't know what service I'm using, how do I find out? I am getting really bad results from twitter as compared to facebook, once I reach maybe 600 or 1000 followers I will probably stop using the twitter ads.

Basic campaigns can be launched with the help of tutorials. If you want to get maximum out of adwords, then leave it to agencies. Agencies will have lot of experience and might have managed millions of dollars on behalf of clients! That way they'll try to optimize and get most out of your budget without burning!

I have a really low budget for advertising. I wonder what the minimum is to hire an agency, do you know?

And I will watch some tutorials, thanks.

Agency budgets are usually pretty high. If you have the time and inclination, it's worth learning AdWords. Just make sure you have a compliant landing page / offer, b/c they can slap / ban accounts quickly.

You won't get an agency to manage your campaign without a 4-6 figure monthly budget. Don't bother looking.

The best way to get yourself familiar with Google Adwords is to start small and work with longtail keywords. You'll blow through your budget far too quick if you start targeting simple one word keywords. Try phrases that you know people are searching for when they hit your pages. Hopefully you've got Google Analytics or some other analytics setup to see this info already.

For each phrase, write 2 different ads for it, trying to implement the keywords into the ad copy. This gives you a higher quality score while allowing you to split test the results. You'll only need 5 - 10 phrases to get started and learn on a small budget. As you learn and optimize you'll be able to continue adding and testing new phrases until you are ready to step it up to those shorter tail keywords.

Google Adwords is becoming increasingly complex, due to all the features being constantly added and/or updated. But that complexity can work in your favor

It's features make it one of the most powerful advertising platforms on the planet, but there's a certain "ignorance tax" that newbies tend to pay because they don't know how to leverage its features and a number of the default settings are more in Google's favor than the advertiser's.

If done right, Adwords is so measurable and you have so much more control over it as compared to most other advertising methods.

Bing Ads is nipping at its heels by copying many of it's features. It has it's own share of complexity, but it too is learnable. The volume is lower but the traffic is cheaper.
