So isn't it possbile for a cpa network to just steal your money?

Got my site up and running and started signing up to cpa networks. I notice in the TOS it basically says that they can seize all your money if they think you violated rules. Now lets say i started investing serious money into this. Like 10k a day. Whats to stop them from seeing all that money in my account at the end of the pay period and just claiming that i violated somehow so they can steal my money?

It seems like you would be taking a huge risk by investing serious money into promoting these offers

I think it's not as easy as saying that "you violated the rules". You and the network both should have sufficient things to show your side positive and those who are really serious about their work will try to solve the problem as soon as possible .That is one reason that people want to stick with the reputed networks (those who proved the best networks in the industry),and also for this reason there are some good networks who are really very selective while accepting the publishers applications to avoid problems but i strongly suggest not depend on only one door

yes, VERY possible, they make it pretty clear in their ToS though,

But I won't be worried about it though, at the end of the day, if you send quality traffic you will make money

  • They probably earn more by gaining a good reputation and thus getting all the good marketers to sign up with them and promote their offers, than by "stealing" their money and eventually they're left with no marketers and no one to promote their offers. So I wouldn't worry about that. Just follow the rules and you'll be good.

Possible - yes. But remember, they also have a reputation to uphold so seizing someones money without good cause actually works against them. Our industry is quite small so everyone knows everyone anyway and words travel fast in our neck of the woods.

If you are worried, start sending them small amounts of traffic and let them send you a few paychecks before you scale up. That way, you can build up some good trust history. That's what I do as well to reduce my risk exposure in the beginning.

Reputable networks don't 'steal' your money. But if you send fraud traffic to their offers, or violate their terms of service, in any way, they have every right to withhold any money you earned with them. There are many ways now to determine if traffic is fraudulent or not. If you follow all the rules, and send legitimate traffic, they will pay you. As other posters have stated, they have a reputation to uphold. If a reputable network doesn't pay, 99.9999% of the time it's because rules of the terms of service have been broken or the leads or sales are garbage.

Personally with my network we do not "seize" any payments unless we pick up upon fraudulent traffic.

Bottom line is if the advertiser doesn't pay for the leads no one gets paid in the process.
If your running paid traffic and investing $10k a day we pick up on that and have a lengthy legal contract in place with the advertiser to ensure everyone gets what their owed.

Fraudulent traffic is basically dupe entries/proxies and stolen CC we pick up on all of this instantaneously. We dont wait till a month later to tell you your traffic isn't good.

That's just how I run my network. A small base of premium publishers. If you need some advice feel free to shoot me a PM.

But that isn't how a CPA network is supposed to work. If you have no leverage to demand payments from advertisers and no processes to identify advertisers that won't pay, then that is your problem. When you get ripped off by an advertiser and the affiliate sent legitimate traffic, it is your responsibility to pay out to the affiliate (if you're serious about your network you should have cashflow and a good relationship with your bank precisely for this purpose). Otherwise, there is literally no reason for you to exist.

To the OP - if you are just starting out it is a good idea to work with networks that appear to have a business model involving dealing with a lot of small affiliates (rather than unheard of networks that deal primarily with a few big affiliates), and have been around prior to 2011 - Peerfly and MaxBounty are the two most obvious. These networks will be the most proactive about their reputations and are a lot more likely to ensure that payments come through quickly regardless of who you are.

It's a possibility, but if you go with a reputable well known network you're not going to have any problems. After all, they have gained that reputation for a reason. Often if you see an affiliate complaining online that a network didn't pay them the network will come out and provide proof that the affiliate was sending fraudulent traffic.

Technically they could try, but in the end it wouldn't be good for them. Networks typically try to maintain a good reputation because word gets around when people aren't paid.

Yep they definitely can refuse to pay you if they suspect any foul play(or any reason really) on your part but these are the networks that quickly lose any reputation they have when they start doing shady things like this. There are a few things you can do to help protect yourself when you're pushing that much volume and revenue, like if you're in the US work with a US network that way you could potentially have the courts at your disposal to try to recoup what you're owed.

It's just another part of internet marketing you have to learn how to work with, people have lost $100,000's of dollars a month from having their google adsense accounts shut down a day before the pay period ends...imagine that.

Most CPA networks know that when they start screwing over affiliates, they are about to go out of business. If you stick with the most reputable ones, I don't see them keeping your money...unless you actually violate their TOS. From their point of view, theirs more money in helping you than hurting you.

Play by the rules, as in don't send junk traffic to offers, don't pay people to sign up for offers...unless it allows incetivized traffic...and don't sign up for the offers yourself through your own link.

Avoid those basic things, and you should be ok.

It is possible and it has happened before. That's why you should choose the network carefully and also start small to see if they pay you regularly.

I have worked as advertiser with 3 of these 4 and publisher at all 4. All solid IMO.

MaxBounty - Almost all advertisers are on prepay or super short net terms. This means, they have low risk of being stiffed by their advertisers, meaning they have the money on hand to pay you since the advertiser has already paid.

PeerFly - Overall great network to work with.

CJ/Commission Junction - Huge company, they are solid.

Adscend Media - Probably the most reputable incentive focused network out there. They have also taken off and are growing fast by doing the right things.

A good network’s reputation worths a million dollars. Before taking off your 10k or more, they will think 20k or more times. This is how they are at the peak.

You can avoid all risk and join a network like Vault Media who will prepay you.

I know a lot of people suggest you go with "reputable" network...which is sound advice...but its still a risk... let's look at the past...and you will see some of the "biggest" or most "reputable" were the ones that crashed and people lost millions...not thousands....

If you are on a network where they rely on advertisers to pay them before they pay you...you will eventually get burned....
