Are ad networks scamming?

Hello warrirors.
I just tried boosting a facebook post for testing in the guitar niche. I paid Rs.80 (roughly $1.2) for one day. I got only 140 reach. That means I paid a cpm rate of 1000/140 x 80 = 571.4 rupees. Or roughly $8.8 cpm to facebook.
Now google or media.net pays me maximum of $0.2 cpm at around 65% share. What the heck is going on?

It doesn't mean they're scamming you.
Have you looked at your traffic?
If 80% of your traffic is Indian, they yeah, even 20 cents are a lot for the CPM.

I used to get around 0.11 CPM from google for Indian traffic..

USA is the top referring country and then sometimes canada. Then rest comes, UK , Australia, philliphines, brazil, etc. I don't target India. It's in the bottom though once or twice a month Indian traffic shoots up to 3rd or fourth position. But most of the time my traffic is quite good.
But leaving that, even if the traffic was 100% from USA, just look at the difference. I pay $8.8 cpm to facebook. How much would google other networks pay at it's best in my same guitar niche @cpm rate? Usually $0.5 - $1. Just look at the difference.

Facebook is simply charging you more for the type of traffic you are currently buying from them.

Remember that there are always different types of traffic with different qualities (depending on keywords, demographics, source, competition, industry, etc) ... which means certain impressions/clicks will always be more valuable than others so the costs will differ.

    Hope that helps

      Thanks for the reply Nick.

I admit that I targeted the US, UK, Canada, Australia through my facebook ad. And I chose the facebook's recommended or something option.

But at other times, my traffic is still 40% from those locations. And also the traffic is from targeted facebook and pinterest groups in the same niche.
So, considering that my targeted traffic is 40% at other times, I should be getting 40% of $8.8 which is $3.52. And considering that the ad networks take away 40% out of that, I should get $2.11. But I get only around $0.2 - $0.3 .

And we are talking about CPM here. So CTR should be of no concern.

I don't know what makes facebook's recommended option more targeted than my other targeted pinterest and facebook group boards. And the funny thing is that I got only one post engagement and 0 website click throughs from that facebook ad campaign while I get a lot more than that for free doing it myself.

      Thanks
