Need advice with private advertising offer

Hi,
I was just contacted by a major auto insurance company about advertising on my construction niche site. I currently have Adsense on my site but am not sure how to approach a direct advertising deal. Should I let them make me an offer? My site is a few years old, but is growing steadily, and I am happy with my growing Adsense revenue (about $200/month). I would love to connect with this company, but don't want to blow it. Any tips for a little guy dealing with a big company would be appreciated.

Maybe you can check if they are also advertising in adwords/adsense (through some spy tools) and see approximately how much they are spending. then you can have an idea of how much to charge them

    I would implement Double click.
Google's DFP system will allow you to sell ad space while generating adsense for spots not sold. Essentially, a much more robust system than Adsense. Big companies know the files to provide you for particular ad spaces they want.
The system could help you learn where there is more value on the site and how to approach all of this.

I want to respond to this company promptly that I am interested in their offer. Does the DFP registration process move quickly, or does it take a while like Adsense?
I wondered if it would be a good idea to take the open approach, asking them how they would prefer to handle the ads, and what information they would need from me.

        It's similar to Adsense.
I would start with working with them directly but not neglect adopting DFP, simultaneously.

Here's an old article with CPM information, that may still have some advice for today. If I recall, the CPC for auto insurance is relatively high.

Are you tracking keyword metrics through Google Analytics to see which keywords people are using to reach your site?

I would imagine that if you have a construction niche site, there may be a number of small truck and van owners.

You could also post a short survey on your site and ask what people are paying for their auto insurance. If you can collect that information, it will give the advertiser more ammunition about the value of your site.

I didn't realize it until I went to the company's website, but they offer all types of insurance including liability, which would also be a good fit for my niche. My current concern as I wait to hear back from this company is that I am a much too small of website for them to deal with. I am currently at around 5,000 page views a month, although it is growing. This is peanuts compared to many other sites out there. I don't know if there was a specific reason I was contacted or if it was just a generic message they send to many companies. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I responded to the inquiry and am waiting for a response.
In the mean time, I did sign up for Google Double Click Small Business (Ugh, more new stuff to study and learn). I'll try to figure that out so I can be more prepared if I get another offer.
      Thanks again for the advice.
