AdWords - 70,000 Impressions, only 10 clicks

by markclimins 12 replies
Hey Everyone,

I'm pretty new to all of this. But anyways I just started an AdWords Campaign, promoting a couple of ClickBank Products directly through my affilate link (without a landing page). I was using the CPM pricing model, bidding about $1.00 per thousand impressions on a $5.00 a day budget. I had to pause the campaign after 2 days because it showed around 70,000 impressions for both ad groups with only 10 clicks and costed around $50 but they didn't charge it. However, I got lucky and made a $40 sale off of the 10 clicks. I am only using the targeted content network with about 30 targeted sites. All 4 of my ads appear well relevant. Am I doing something wrong? Should I use CPC, bidding and keywords?

Thanks

    Hi Mark,

I don't know what results you can normally get with the cpm model but make sure you're tracking.

There are probably a few tools you can use but I think Affiliate Prophet allows you to track where a visitor comes from on the content network.

So if you're testing 30 sites and you run some more tests, you can focus your efforts on just the sites that are generating sales/clicks.

i'd test it. set up another group of ads where you pay per click and see what gets better results.

      They didn't charge you......yet.

They bill once a month as far as I know, unless you are working off an Adwords voucher.

-$10 means you need to track things to find out what is draining your budget and what is working, (ie what got the sale?)

Does adwords convert still? I have heard multiple people say that compared to yahoo it's dead right now.

Simple just, first swith to cpc model. create 2 adgroups identical, one for placements,

other for content but here bid on the placement like 1 cent. you won't get any click on the placement. but you will on the content

Add a tracking id to each site of the 30, next get the 31 first tracking id to content network ad,

then go to reports page Create 2 reports to run on a weekly basis

run a click and placement report for first adgroup

a content or general report on the second adgroup

this will take bit long its worth the sales

then you will know from the tracking ids how you got the sale.

right then you can raise the bid on the converting and ditch the others

    easy right

When using cpm, make sure that your ads appear above the fold. Also, you need to choose the web-pages which are very related to your niche. Not only so, but you need to visit these pages. Make sure that Google ads (adsense in these pages) appear above the fold. i.e. you can see Google Ads without scrolling down.

I hope that this will help.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys for the replies. I'm trying PPSeer now to track conversions and I just switched to CPC with bids on some good keywords. I'll see what happens.
