Adwords Crazy Cost - Please Help

Hi guys,

So i wanted to run a new adwords campaign for a few keywords. I used the keyword planner to get the best keywords and found some really cheap ones that were perfect for my needs. CPC was around $0.10 - $0.15 and they all had decent monthly searches.

I created the campaign (the landing page was already created), added the keywords and surprise, surprise, in the actual ad i got a min cost of $1.5 to $2.5 for my previously researched low cost keywords.

My question is why? Why is the actual cost 10 times higher than the estimated cost? I've been running adwords campaigns for the past 5 years and i've never seen this.

The quality score of my ads is high, 7 or 8 out of 10 (good landing page, highly targeted keywords) and there is no one else bidding for these keywords - so the $0.10 cpc makes sense. The $2.5 cpc does not make sense at all...

Please help me out, i don't know what i'm doing wrong here...

There isn't a minimum cost so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Unless maybe you're bidding CPM, which I have never done on AdWords. Though I probably should since my CTR is so high. Something to consider.

Even though your max bid may be $2.50 the cost of the click if low competition may be around $0.10. You will just need to run the ad and see what your avg cpc is

Are you bidding exact, phrase or broad.
The CPC might sounds higher at the beginning but eventually goes down when you have high quality score.

@drewfioravanti - by min cost i min cost i mean the cost required to show your ads, the one where it says "Below first page bid"

@CpvTrafficPro - i don't wanna pay $2.5 just to run the ad, i have a small daily budget and from $0.15 to $2.5 cpc is a huge difference

@Mr Lim - i've tried them all, [exact], "phrase" and broad and still nothing. My quality score is high, 8 out of 10

Oh, OK. Well, that means there is certainly other people bidding on those keywords. (You claimed there weren't any) and those ads have much higher ad ranks than yours.

I've had campaigns where the first page bid was $.70 and I had to bid $7 to get into the top 3. Then, I have campaigns where I am bidding $0.83 with an ad rank of about 4.5 and it is telling me my bid is below first page $4.00.

It's all about ad rank. You're going to have to bid higher to get higher ad rank. And you're gonna need a strong CTR to push your rank up and your cost down.

There are no other people bidding for my keywords. There are no ads showing and besides that, the keywords are not money keywords (product or service related), not commercial keywords and for some keywords i have a score of 10 out of 10.

I thought so (was just hoping this is not true). Totally agree with Remy about google, they're greedy a$$holes. I'll pay the required min bid and see if the cpc goes down.

      Thanks for the help guys!

My strategy is to totally ignore Google's suggested first page bid. Go with your original $0.10 as a max bid and see what happens. If there are plenty of searches - you will get clicks.

What @drewfioravanti said above, isn't correct.

The reason why your actual bid is so high, IS because there is no competition. Which means there is very little ad / click history. So basically Google doesn't see any money to be made there so that's why the bid is so high.

You will have to go with that bid and hope to get a good CTR to bring it down.

Target any keyword with no competition and you will get the ol' "below first page bid" notice, which is hilarious considering there is no other bids on the keyword. Google doesn't like showing ads for free, cause they're greedy a$$holes.

    The money is the motive.

Ha. Didn't realize there were no ads showing. Yeah. Theyre gonna force you to bid high to get impressions. So, Remy is right as far as I can tell.

Probably you are running for big niches such weight loss, or there is a high competition on adwords that time, bidding on those keywords .
