You're going to need a lot more than advice. You need a lot of work to catch up to that. 26,000 backlinks? Are you sure you want to go up against a monster like that? You might want to consider the "lower hanging fruit" and go for that as your time is better spent on that.

My recommendation is to go for easy keywords first. Once you dominate that, the moderately difficult keywords will be easier. Once you dominate that, then the more difficult keywords will then also become easier. You'll then have a higher chance of dominating that as well.

Good luck.

Not necessarily - it all depends on the quality of the backlinks that you receive. All backlinks are not created equal. PR-9, .edu, and .gov hold a lot of weight. I'm currently sitting #4 out of 1.5 Million websites for a medical term searched 18,000 times. I am sitting 2 places above the Center for Disease Control (a PR9 .gov website). And, the funny thing is that I have a PR1.

So ultimately it depends on the quality of the links you grab.

That is true as well, but the difficulty varies according to niches and terms. I mean, how long did it take you to get to that point and how many sites actually use that exact phrase in their title and page content?

It honestly took me 4.5 weeks. I got all of angela and paul's backlinks (even from the past months), sat on my MacBook everyday, and just posted like a crazy person. LOL - gf got so mad. It does get harder the higher you get though. WebMD and some of the other TOP medical websites don't want to move so easily. But it's okay - i'm patient. I'll get my chance...

Gotta love Angela. I also use Paul's backlinks. Of course, I just pay someone else to do it so I can accomplish other work.

Yeah, but that's why I recommended that he goes for the easier one. He'll make money in the process and be able to re-invest it to where someone else does the work for him.

Of course it is possible, as it was mentioned before - not all links have the same value.
You have to analyze the 26000 backlinks, are they all from one domain? are they all from different domains?...

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you analyze the page you are competing with and not the domain.

When you'll have a clearer picture of the challenge you are facing, it will be easier to estimate what effort you need to put in.

You'll find many sites with a large number of back links have garbage links. Upto 50% or more links are garbage ie dead websites, 0 range forum posts etc. If your competitor is one of these sites, you can beat them with less than half the links.

If those 26 000 links are genuine..........

Many people who do certain jobs, whether it's backlinking, writing articles, submitting articles, etc. Just depends on what I need done. The only thing I can't hire out right now is copywriting.

Well, good for you, Owen. Glad you have the resources to do that. A lot of folks can't, so you're ahead of the game not only by having the resources but knowing what resources to use.

I'm subscribed to Angela's packets and I'm outsourcing the backlinking. For less than $10 I can get the entire 30 backlinks done right. Well worth it.

my advice:

1. check the quality of the backlinks. be very sure that it is truly that much.
2. If you must get the links after verifying the above, i suggest you sit in front of your computers all day long getting lots of links through article marketing, social bookmarking, positng etc. sinece you cannto do this all alone, i suggest you outsource some of these tasks. be detrmined, you will reach your goal. the site you are refering to did not achiev the links within few months or years. So, get to work! google luck.

On a lighter note, why consider the long tail version of the same keyword you are going for? just a suggestion.

What are link counts like for sites 2-10? They may only have a couple hundred each, meaning it will be much easier to overtake them. A lot of money can be made in position number 2.

A backlink is simply referring to other sites linking back to your website, hence "backlink".
