Default Twitter for Indexing

We all know that it can be hard to get Google to index a new site quickly, and that sometimes the best way to get this indexed is via one of the hot Web 2.0 properties.

For instance, a lot of people use Squidoo as the indexing mechanism.

Has anyone had any experience using a Twitter account to get the new site indexed quickly, and does this work in practice? How does this compare to Squidoo?

I've seen things get indexed within hours of sending a tweet with the URL.

I don't know how Twitter compares with Squidoo in that regard.

I also have some websites of my own where I can stick up a link to a new site and have it indexed in short order.

No we don't.

I haven't seen that as a problem for about 8 years.

Getting crawled is simple and quick. The search engines love finding new content and one good link, or submitting your rss feed will get you spidered in minutes. It's been that way for years.

I too use digg and flickr to get a site indexed quickly

as far as using twitter for SEO, I read about this and tried it myself:
I used twitter to get my name to rank, sort of branding for me as a personality.

it worked pretty good I'd have to say.

I have a common name and some fairly notable ancestors with the same name:
patent holder of the type set that all newspaper printing presses use to this day, Ambassador to England.. the list goes on.

To see what I'm talking about Google this:
David Bruce Jr

David Bruce Jr - Google Search

I can't say tweeting an SEO client of mine's url has done any good from a ranking or indexing point of view though.

Could have garnered page views, traffic and exposure but indexing or ranking?
jury is still out on that question

The automatic shortening of a long url makes it hard to use Twitter for SEO.

But if you make your tweet interesting you can still get great traffic from Twitter.

Does you new site have a Google XML sitemap? This can also help you deep index a new site.
