Hi Warriors, I have encountered some problem that I can not understand. My targeted keyword search ranking in different search engines for my website seems very different than each other, especially google vs others. Here are My targeted keyword search ranking on: Google: between 110 - 200th (jumping around everyday) Yahoo: Top 5 Bing: Top 5 Now my question is, can this be normal? Why is my ranking so low on google? Shouldn't I expect my google search ranking to be at least top 10? I know each search engine have their own algorithm. But is it because I don't have enough authority for my keyword, so my google search ranking is so low? I also have other sites, and their search ranking seems pretty consistent across all search engines. Does anyone know why? Could that be some kind of penalty here? Any information would be great. Thanks guys! |

Each of these search engines uses different algorithms. If you optimize your site for Google, it might (just as an example, not guaranteed either way) hurt you in MSN or Yahoo!, and vice versa. Fact of life. Besides, noone (including Larry Page) understands exactly what google does. It's a little bit of magic and a lot (I mean LLLLOOOTTT) of code |

How old is the site? What type of links are you acquiring? How quickly have you been acquiring the links? Is the term highly competitive?

The site is about 3 months old now. The keyword competitiveness is considered high. Phrase match is about 235,000 sites on google broad match is about 72 million |

My site is the same way. Yahoo and Bing consider different factors when ranking. I'd say it's normal for the same site to be ranked differently across all of the search engines.

I find it's usually a problem with the number of links you have pointing at your page in Google. I have seen a site I work on jump up to the first page on Google for a pretty competitive keyword after some changes made to optimise the internal links but it then dropped to the second page and keeps bouncing from around 6th position to 18th. This is down to a lack of targeted external link ...
