Stupid question - does Google/Yahoo recognize WP blog tags?

This may seem like a lame question but I can't find an answer...

Does Google or Yahoo recognize WP 'blog tags' - those keywords we type in to describe our blog post? Or are these tags only useful on the blog itself?

Try this command in either Google or Yahoo.

abc site:en.wordpress.com/tag/

It will show that the search engines are aware of the tagged fields since it shows "abc" in bold.

Not sure if that answers your question...

Clickguy - thanks for the response. I tried several versions of what you said but nothing clicked. If my site was - www.123xyzqr.com - how would I type that into google using your method?

Google does index all the tag pages.

You can check yourself by quering:

My own experience is that I get traffic from the tag pages on the wordpress.com domain in google but my own wordpress self-hosted blogs don't seem to have the tags indexed in google or generate much traffic. I do see the category pages listed in google and get some traffic from those.

I guess google indexes the tag page. One of my tags is ranking high in google for a particular keyword while the main url is no where to be found.
