I'm in the middle of keyword research and I've decided to use Google's tool even though I built my list with Wordtracker. I broke my list into categories and am now using the Google tool to pull seatch volume. I notice that I get alot of "not enough data" under the local search volume, but Global monthly search volume shows me actual figures. Which do you normally use? Thanks. Mike |

You could infer from the other values what the comparative size is and divide using an average value. But if there's not enough data, there's a reason for that and that's simply because there are few searches locally for those keywords. Many reasons why that would be so.

I always use local search volume because I target an English-speaking audience. I also set the local settings to include the countries I am targeting: US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.

I now use local search and select only the 'United States'. My reason being that it's difficult to rank in the top few positions in all countries. By basing my keyword research figures on just the U.S, anything else I get is then a bonus. Better to under-estimate and be pleasantly surprised than over-estimate and be disappointed. |

Is anyone aware of a method for finding monthly keyword search volumes for specific CITIES? Like, I live in San Diego and want to find out how many San Diegans are searching for "lose weight fast" (just an example) every month. I'm interested in these numbers for offline marketing. |

> Is anyone aware of a method for finding monthly keyword search volumes for specific CITIES? I thought the keyword tool allowed you to set specific cities, but I was wrong. You can only select countries. I must have been thinking about the ad preview tool. Why don't you just divide the numbers? San Diego has what, 3 million people? USA has 300 million. Divide by 100. Will not be accurate but should be a fairly good estimate. |
