Which hold more weight? A lot of the phrases I am finding have many many domain backlinks but no page backlinks. Is it possible to outrank them using backlinks to a specific page ? BLP = backlinks to page BLD = backlinks to domain I am using market samurai by the way |

I'm saying BLD. Make sure it's linked from relevant sites (doesn't have to be - but would help more if you did).

I'm going to say something controversial here... I believe BLP is more important. That's because Google ranks pages - not sites. (You just need to see a Google search results page to know that's true - Google wants you to visit the most relevant page for a specific topic) Looking at some examples - a page with 120 BLP and 128 BLD outranks a page with 1 BLP and 30700 BLD But you can't take BLP in isolation... All other things being equal, if you have more BLP than someone, then you'll outrank them. All other things being equal, if you have more BLD than someone, then you'll outrank them. All other things being equal, if you have better internal links sending more "link juice" from your internal pages to other pages within the site, then you'll outrank them. If your links are better quality, or more relevant - then you'll outrank them. If your on-page optimization is better - then you'll outrank them. If your site is older - then you'll beat them. If your PR is higher, then you'll beat them. etc etc etc There are SO MANY factors! The key is to work out whether you're going to be able to beat your competitors in MOST areas. Brent |
