I came across this today - bad news for those building an affiliate business with blogs News Flash from Dr. Glenn Livingston of Rocket Clicks: I got word from several affiliate marketers that Google dropped the hammer today on affiliate review pages. Many pages went from quality scores of 10 —> 1 overnight. I read it on Google Slap for Product Review Sites |

Please note, review blogs will still work if you use other methods of traffic generation besides PPC. |

And one of the strengths of the conduit method is its ability to pull in long-tail traffic.

Hi Steven "review blogs will still work if you use other methods of traffic generation besides PPC" correct - as of today - but how long will it be before the big G figures a way to downgrade those sites and kill them in the serps? Funny thing - a few years ago the rage was built for adsense sites - How popular are they today? -I'm guessing google found a way to recognise them and now they struggle to rank. Affiliate blogs have been the "flavour of the month" for a while - some people have made it an art form in getting these sites to rank well. Be a pity for those who invest a lot of time and resources in these to find their traffic dries up 'cause google figures a way to downgrade them (guess there is always yahoo, msn) It apears to me that any time a "easy" method of making money online that can be systemised - rinse and repeat -and is promoted heavily is going to live a short life - because those interested in keeping the junk of the streets will find a way to clean it up! Cheers Danny |

Even though I still do PPC affiliate marketing, I am actually happy because now the people with real value can have a little more room to work without all the garbage floating around. I saw this coming a long time ago, which is why I started focusing on the content network. So far, I have not seen any of my content campaigns affected. I am also not pasting my landing pages with affiliate links either. What I do now is I take control of the process. For example, you can still promote clickbank products via the search network if you control the process. Here is what you can do in a nutshell: Get permission from the website owner to host the site on your own domain or use the "video skinning" technique. Either of these methods will bypass the actual vendor site and send the customer directly to the clickbank checkout page or use this to build your own lists, do your own little mini-product launches, etc. The list goes on. Word to the wise, if you are not controlling the process, you are not building a long term business. Stop letting Google dictate your business and do something about it. Real business people will always overcome adversity. That is what separates the ones who never make it from the ones who are successful.

The majority of these sites contain advertorials from people who have never used the products in question and are not experts in the field.

People put way too many of their eggs in one basket these days. Luckily for me I read Multiple Streams Of Internet Income by Robert Allen when I first got started. We've seen these slaps and scares before here. You all know what I'm talking about. The whole "Death Of...." marketing strategy. For those of you not in the "know" here's how it works: 1) People find an easy way to make money 2) They make products and tell others how to make money that way 3) The method gets saturated and quick buck artists and BlueFartters beat the method to death 4) The main fulcrum website that was holding the method together makes changes and it becomes obsolete 5) People publish products called "The Death Of Such And Such" or they make a post on their blog, or send an email to their list 6) In that product/post/email they explained steps 1-4, and then offer you an alternative method 7) The savvy marketing guy who did step 5 makes loot I appreciate what that blog owner is doing for the many affiliates who may not know yet, but if you read the entire post you will see exactly what I'm talking about. Am I saying that this whole strategy is bad? NO! Just saying that its there. I'd like to see the community as a whole start basing its activities on sound and proven principles of internet marketing, as opposed to fly-by-night quick buck methods that come and go. |

I have to agree with Mike Hill and Hamish. I'm certainly guilty of trying many, many 'push-button-auto-super-cash-machine' tactics. But the results are ALWAYS the same, eventually. Footprints, filters, de-indexing, slapping... Some make money, for a while. Some even make a lot of money. But in the end, these are not sustainable business models, and are in effect just efforts at gaming the system. And the funny thing is, soooo much time, thought, and effort are applied to figure out ways to NOT have to apply time, thought, and effort! Want to create a LONG TERM, SUSTAINABLE online business? Focus on doing something of quality. Whether it's quality, legitimate reviews, quality articles, etc. Produce quality, and you don't have to worry about how and when your efforts will evaporate.
