How in the **** did this affiliate rank higher than Amazon w/o any backlinks???

So I was going to go to Amazon to find some books, and then I see a website rank in the first position for Amazon. I thought to myself, why not check how many backlinks it has. So I check it out on Site Explorer, and I see this message, "We were unable to find any results for the given URL in our index:"

I was confused, I've never seen this before. How is this possible at all? Is this some sort of secret that he knows of? I even check out the site itself, w/o the affiliate info. The site itself has 12 pages, and 3 inlinks.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post his affiliate link, but if it's ok, then I will. By the way, I'm not in any way an advertiser for him. I just want to know how it's possible.

What do you guys think?

Did you check out the site and see how old it was? It could be a new site that hasn't "settled yet."

What is the keyword?.......It can just be that it is better optimized for that phrase. I frequently see sites outranking Amazon.

I was on Google, and I typed in amazon. After that I saw 2 sites that were ranked higher than Amazon.

Not for me...

Amazon is holding it down pretty strong when I searched for amazon...

Maybe a Google search engineer is having some fun or possibly even has a vendetta against Amazon.com for shipping him the wrong book. Their human website reviewers do have the ability to manually raise SERPs of websites.
