Default Link Backs to Not Count?

I'm hearing rumours on other forums (no links unfortunately, just hear say) that Google has revised it's algorithm for PR to include another factor, so reducing the amount of influence link backs will have. Have you heard anything about this, is it true?

Unless there is a solid proof, let wait for the actual outcome.

Google is in fact constantly changing the algorithms. Right now, there are more than 250 factors.

I don't see in the near future discounting back links, what I can see though is a better analysis of back links.

Back links should be naturally earned and not to manipulate search engine results.

I've had a little more info from the person who told me this. Apparently some guy made a program that auto posts to forums with a link in the post. It does thousands of forums, and seems to get past the captcha-at least it seemed to on the forums I saw it post on.

Apparently its a knee jerk response to that, but I can't see Google changing everything just for one guy's program.

That rumor has been around almost as long as Google's been around. Year after year people claiming to be in a panic over it.

I know SEO guys that have been around as long as Google and none I know are in a panic. I would take it with a grain of salt.

I heard external link backs and internal site indexing link backs will be about the same and maybe the site index and internal page linking may have more clout.

There is no proof for this claims.. on the other hand, I have positive proof that forums are still better.

This is probably true, as is what has alraedy been said. MSN are developing a system similar to Page Rank, called BrowseRank which is based more on the intelligence of people's trends.

How will they measure people's trends? Are they planning to use a cookie tracking system to watch where you've visited or something? I find that thought a little worrying.

So do you think they might decrease emphasis on backlinks arising from comments or do they do that already?
