No matter what backlink tool you are using - this tool cannot show you the real number of backlinks.

Why? Because it is simply impossible in terms of technology to see the real number of backlinks. No matter how hard the developers have been trying to create a good tool, this is a dead end.

I know this thread might be hated by the creators of backlink checking tools. That is why in advance I want to explain that the purpose of sharing this information is to make sure that people (who use backlink checking tools) don't make wrong business decisions based on these tools. I am not against using backlink checking tools and from time to time use them myself, BUT when using them I always remember that they cannot be used as a measurement tool for the competition in the niche and how many backlinks the top site has.

Thank you so much for this! I get this question from my users every day -- why can't I see my links in google/yahoo? I keep telling them that this is irrelevant but it's hard to get the message across. This is just what I need.

And this can also help to save them from "Why am I not page one if this site has only {number} backlinks? I already built {another number} backlinks and I managed to get to page 2 only!"

Isn't it smart about search engines to hit SEO into one of its weakest point?

(I mean into answering the toughest question "how many backlinks do I need to get page 1?")

The only remark I wanted to make (because I got some very specific emails if my plan is to kill the whole backlink checking niche) - my intent is not to kill the niche of backlink checking tools.

I said that I also use them from time to time, BUT I never take the results from backlink checking tools as ultimate answer to "easy/tough" niche measurement. I had niches where inanchor was low, the number of backlinks (with the necessary keyword in the anchor) was low - and the niche turned out to be a real heck for the pushing to page 1. And on the contrary - I had niches where inanchor was big, number of backlinks was huge - and we took that niche in 6 weeks.

And many people get into the same trouble and ask "Why?"

So, this video is the answer to this "Why?" - because the backlink checking tools cannot show the real number as search engines cut their wings on this.

Very interesting. I always knew that the Yahoo backlinking tool was pretty much worthless. It is just better to focus on your traffic rather then how many backlinks you have.
