heard conflicting stories, but does google bot actually check whois info to track ownership of sites. not a big deal with privacy available, but for thousands of sites, it's a little chunk of change if not necessary. Also, any thoughts on google bot tracking form ID info across domains to establish ownership as well? (i.e. the same aWeber "client ID # in the form across multiple domians?) thanks. |

Yes sir. If you can use a tool like spyonweb.com to find someones link network, you can bet Google can too, being a registrar and all. Take a look at some of the patent applications if you have the time, mind boggling stuff that'll get you grabbing your tin foil hat in no time.

No one can give 100% guarantee that Google is using this info actively right now. BUT I think it would be very logical to use whois info (site owner details) for their algorithm, because this can help them to see through some of the SEO scams. Not all scams, of course, but some very nasty scams for sure. This is when one person buys 100 domain names, opens 100 subdomain blogs, domain names are split on several different IPs and then has a "network of 10,000 blogs" Surely this network in not natural, and with the ownership of the sites this can be tracked quite easily. And I assume this is just a matter of time before they start doing it actively (or, maybe, even do that right now). |

Google is a registrar and has full access to the whois database. Their stated intent is to use that knowledge to improve search results. Register with Google - Search Marketing News Blog - Search Engine Watch (SEW) |
