Default Onsite SEO and index.html

I've always wondered about index.html and the effect it has on SEO.

It's becasue when linking to my domain name onsite.

It is always www.mysite.com/index.html

Does that have an effect on SEO for my main domain name? www.mysite.com

when you are getting links from internal pages to home page(or on other way around), it is better to not to include "index.html".....

Don't include it. A little clever 301 redirect will pass the majority of that link juice to your root domain, should be something like this:

RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.*index\.html\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(.*)index\.html$ $1 [R=301,L]

Could be a bit buggy, test and tweak

Hi I,

By a mile I've had the best ranking results linking to just one inner page and completely ignoring the home page.

This is one great technique I got from Stompernet. Their theory is that one site's inner page linking to another site's inner page looks 'natural'.

It's even more powerful in my experience if that inner page is a single-post WP blog page with the exact keyword as the title.
