Hey everyone, i recently created a new wordpress blog with the keyword as the domain and only concentrated on one keyword with my backlinking. There was not much competition and my site went to spot 2 on google after a view days. about 5 days later i couldn't find my site on the 1st page anymore and i had to realize that it droped back to the 20th page!... it is still indexed so it can't be the sandbox, right? i don't know what happened there and i don't know if i can reach the 1st page in the future.. do you think google penalized my site or what could be the reason? cu, capo |

I've had the experience with social bookmarking that when the bookmarks are fresh they can pass along a lot of good search benefits. Bookmarking can quickly put a site in the top ten, but if ALL you have is bookmarking I've seen sites/pages drop like a rock because there are no other supporting links and the bookmarks rotate off of the highest pagerank areas of the social bookmarking sites as newer bookmarks are posted.. I've always felt that a diversity of link sources is probably the best overall and will get you to a point where you'll see less fluctuation. So, I doubt it's a penalty it's just the nature of only using social bookmarking. If there's not much competition for that keyword I would think it would be fairly easy to get back into a decent ranking without too great an effort in finding other ways to get links.... article marketing, etc... |

the problem is that i think i only used one social bookmarking site and the rest of the links come from forum signatures and some of angelas pages. with the new site and NO backlinks i was already at the second page... strange thing.. |

Your site is new and you will likely see a lot of fluctuation in the beginning as you build links. After some time it will settle down. Read through this forum and you will see this mentioned numerous times. | |

What you see is normal. Just hang loose. When I have a new site that disappears from the first page, I don't even bother to see where it is. I just continue doing what I was doing... Evita |

Check this forum thread - this is exactly the situation you are talking about - Jumping in SERPs, Up and Down? No sandbox, no penalies - MUCH easier explanation! |

If its a new domain this typical. It's just the Google dance, time and some good back links and you will be back on top before you know it. |

Evita is spot on there. Google is torn between wanting to show fresh content and presenting more trusted, aged, authority-style sites to its users. Early bounce up and down is completely normal so stick to your long-term goals of ranking high - with a portfolio of sites - and don't worry about SERP fluctuations on the way. |
