Default Offline SEO beginners question.

Hi There!

I have decided that I want to try and find a few offline SEO clients. I actually decided this a few months ago and today I was wondering why I have not actually done anything about it.

Well I guess it is because I am not 100% confident in myself.

I also can't figure out what how would you go about getting a business ranked in Googles local business results?

Does anyone out there know how to get a business to show up in the top results for local business results?

Any help would be appreciated.

This is so funny - one of my clients is from Brighton which is near Boston. I started out getting his site to #4 on the first page in his niche. Here's what I did. In the title tag, I put the following: <title>[Profession] Brighton MA</title>

Then I backlinked to his site using different anchor texts. I used local directories to post his link as well.

There was a lot more I did - right now we're using Twitter and FB to get targeted ppl into his network.

PM me if you have any questions.

Comparative to globally competing for keywords, it is much easier.

On page SEO becomes very important. Since a large percentage of local websites are constructed and optimized by web designers not trained or knowledgeable in SEO, you can do some of the the simple things to raise the site in the SERPs.

That said, I still do quite a bit of the same things for local sites as other sites - link building, content, etc. to gain traction in the long-tails and for overall SEO health of the site.

use niche keywords in the meta tags, submit to local business directories, try to get back links from local relevant sites, local press release submission, classifieds ad submission, local forum postings, local social networking...etc
