Seems google now counts nofollow backlinks.
see the full article here http://arindamchakraborty.com/google...-nofollow-link I think the guy is right. I have notice that Google is counting lot of links from yahoo answers for me even though yahoo answers is nofollow. what do warriors think? |

it depends upon the niche ..if niche is too competitive then yahoo answers links would not effect much, once a site follows nofollow attribute then it sticks to nofollow only and doesnt effect any page rank/.....but for traffic purposes yahoo can be gr8....

actually from my understandings for other marketers. Nofollow links are counted to page ranks. All though they are only a fraction of what a do follow link would give you. So it is still better to build your dofollow links list over nofollow sites. However they do count at a fraction of what you get from a dofollow backlink.

Well, the article builds its main argument on thin air. The fact that a nofollow backlink appeared in webmaster tools proves absolutely nothing. From what I have read until now, I gather that nofollow links are in fact followed by SEs, but do not pass any pagerank or anchor text to the page they are pointing too. Also, how can one prove their point by Matt Cutts' facial expression as if he holds some big google secret back? That's not serious.

mat cutts wrote a while back that nofollow was no longer used to affect the flow of pagerank, and that it had been like that for over a year but no one had realised it.

If we are doubt google won't give credit to the increase of pagerank, but I'm confident that Yahoo won't matter if it's nofollow or not. So, still we're hitting two birds!

I don't understand how the link can be counted without the PR.
Here's the way I learned it: A backlink counts as a vote for your site in the category of that particular anchor text/keyword phrase, and the PR is the measure or magnitude of that vote. How does Google weigh the vote if the PR doesn't come into play? And if the anchor text isn't taken into account, then there isn't a "category" for the vote either. |

PR is not important while google counts the backlinks. But google doesn't count the no follow links. It can counts only do follow.
Thanks. |

Do Twitter links count as backlinks? I have not seen Google do that yet.

Think about this; if you were able to get 1,000 links for your site or page. If none of them were nofollow, wouldn't that be a little unnatural? So does it really matter if the links you get are dofollow or nofollow? You need both for them to be natural and if they are not natural, then Google will notice that something is up. One may be worth more than the other, or maybe not. Only Google knows for sure, and they ain't telling. So in my mind, you need both.

Are there any other tools like seodigger which is no longer around and has been re-placed by semrush which isn't as good. Anyone know of a similar one?
