SEO Help Plz..Does Google Play Gamesm On Me??

Hello

I have a website that was getting indexed by google evry other day, and it got a PR 3 wothout any optimization,,

Once I started to optimize it following top guns advice (stomping the search engine, Ryan Diess..etc), my site didn't get indexed!
I got Angela backlink packet and built some high PR links but nothing is detected by Google!

I feel as being punished for optimizing my site!

In my webmasters tools, the data isn't updating at all, no matter I do (adding external links., change titles..etc) , the data is frozen!

I run a test using the test link at webmasters tools, I got something I didn't understand:

"Detected as a directory; specific files may have different restrictions"
(any explanation)?

I need help and guidance plz, this site means alot of me and I tried to avoid mistakes and did my best to get it ranked well

I don't know what the warning message is, no clue.

How old is the site? How long has it been down in the ranks? How many back links does it have? What niche/keyword?

Many variables, hard to say anything with limited info

Curious, what tools are these that you mentioned?

I only use one main tool myself, check my ranks in the search engines themselves.

Did you have your website redirected to some other, for some time?

I had this once, for one of my websites - I redirected it with 301 to another website for one day, and I do not get Google traffic at all after that.
