How Do I Create Back Links

You'll have to excuse my ignorance here. Up until now I haven't really got into this. I've just been doing other important things.

I have read up and that you email someone and ask them if they will give you a back link. Is that the only way? I don't really know where to start, but I don't like the idea of pestering everyone in my niche. Is there something that I am missing?

The basic concept is to find sites that are relevant and related to your business and then contact that business owner to 'exchange' links. Each of you would place a link to the others site in an effort to a) drive traffic to each other site; b) improve your search engine rankings.

While many people have success with this process, it can be very time consuming and very frustrating.

I have found that the most successful people have quality content, well structured web pages and good key words. If you are in business to last, your site will be picked up by the indexing sites, faster than you can believe. A few months ago I put together a site for a music store and within a month had them on the front page of yahoo and google for the targeted key words. It was all based on the content and the formatting.

Backlinks..ahh..the hot thing nowadays to rank high in Google.

Well, if you understand what is backlinks, you can essentially think of many ways you can obtain them.

Backlinks are essentially just ANY links in the web on ANY site or webpage that links & directs the user who clicked it BACK to your desired webpage.

With that in mind, ANY link is a backlink - it just depends where it points to.

The popular thing now is to combine backlinks with anchor text - which in case you do not know what it is, is just the "word" representing the "URL" rather than just the pure raw URL. An example can be seen in my signature (most signatures here, heh).

As you can see, there are MANY ways you can obtain backlinks. However, the quality of the backlinks is said to be more important than the quantity.

Thus, WHERE your link is placed or obtained is more important than the number of links. (Though to a certain extent, you should have a minimum amount of healthy backlinks in your competition). It is generally believed now that a link from a higher PR (Page Rank) webpage is more valuable than several links from low PR webpages.

That being said, here are a list of ideas for backlinks:

1) Commenting on blogs and adding your backlinks (you can look for high PR blogs)
2) Posting backlinks in signatures in forums
3) Creating backlinks in profile pages (very popular - essentially you create an account at ANY sites that has membership qualities and add backlinks to the profiles in these accounts)
4) Adding backlinks in articles that you write
5) Trading backlinks/asking for another webmaster to link to you(like what you had in mind)
6) Answering questions on Yahoo Answers with a backlink added
7) Posting ads on websites or otherwise, with backlink text in them.

That's off the top of my head. Basically, anywhere you can add some html code and text, you can create a backlink.

If your objective is to drive traffic, then you know adding the link of your niche site to WarriorForum is almost useless.

But if you're talking about backlinks, then you can just put it as:

My niche sites: Domain 1 | Domain 2 etc...

I cannot give you a direct answer as I do not know Google's logarithm..

But in my eyes a backlink is a backlink, and warrior forum is a high PR website that is easily indexed by Google. So why not?

Here's one of my favorite techniques:

1.) First, make a niche-worthy relevant post in your blog.

2.) Go to Google and search for

niche blog commentluv

is,

3.) Visit the resulting sites that look interesting and comment intelligently at that particular blog post.

4.) When the author approves the comment, you'll receive a deep link BACK to your website.

What you mean is link exchange, you could also gain backlinks in various other ways

a) buy backlinks from high PR sites (albeit discreetly)
b) comment on blogs
c) setup web 2.0 sites with backlinks to your site.

Yes, by giving them a link you are giving a backlink to them, At the same time, you can ask them to give you a backlink too. However, it is not only way to get backlinks. You can follow a lot of other ways to get backlinks, Some are here

Or Trackback spider to find sites for PR and post trackback! That's the easiest way to start...

Baclinks are like queens of Google
There are number of ways to get them like Directory submission, through article posting, using forum signature, blog commenting, social bookmarking sites, yahoo Answers, link exchange from other relevant websites etc...make sure you don't try to get huge number in relative short time period.
Backlinks with anchor text as keywords will help you to get better SERP in Google for them.

Broadly speaking there are backlinks you can create yourself, such as:
- bookmarking sites (mystuff.ask.com, a1webmarks, blinklist...)
- blogs (livejournal, wordpress, blogger...)
- social voting (digg, reddit, propeller...)
- blog commenting (using comment kahuna, see above)
- article submission (ezine articles, goarticles...)
- directory submission (not advised, viewed as link farms nowadays)

and of course links you cannot get without the consent of the web site owner. This involves contacting the owners and since this has become in vogue it is harder and harder to get links this way unless you have truly world class content.

Also, links can be one-way or reciprocal, ie. you link to me, I'll link to you. Avoid reciprocal links, only go for one-way links.

One more thing, there is a thing called link velocity. Google pays attention to how fast you build links. It needs to look natural. If you get no links then 200 in one day then no links again, it will do more harm than good. Better set a target of 1-3 new links a day and stick to it.

As mentioned before, you can get authoritative backlinks by creating signature links, social bookmarks, RSS submissions, videos and many other ways.

Creating all these links can be time consuming though.

Good information about back links, it took me a while to understand back links but I try to consistently post forums and write articles. I am going to start commenting on blog post. I dislike people who make irrelevant comments on my blog just to get a back link, I never approve them.
