Beware Adsense Hackers

Someone hacked into one of my sites (run on the articledashboard script) and changed all of my adsense ids to their ids, as well as changing the clickbank hops to theirs!

I'm really pissed and will be reporting them to google and clickbank!

yes, you can report them to google and cb, and if you intend to sue the culprit for lost earnings you will make google and cb aware of this so that they can submit the earnings reports

Tough luck. Do it immediaetly.

And beware that even this might have been done with a malicious intent in a different sense. You may not even be the target - it might be Company X trying to hurt the credibility of Company Y (competitor of Company X). That would be even more unfortunate.

It looks like only 2 days worth of lost revenue, so that's not too bad. And the cheeky bugger even used 2 different adsense accounts as I found 2 different lots of codes that weren't mine (though it could have been 2 different people). Both adsense ids and the clickbank nic have been reported.

I think I'll be scrapping the articledashboard script and write my own straight html pages.

I had something worse happen to me, someone out of spite, found my adsense id and sent robots to click on my ads and got my adsense account killed. i didnt think this would be my problem but since you cant get a decent answer from google after that i think you have to be very carefull about what sites you add an adsense id to. this gives lots of weight to using adsense click protector scripts and or cloaking the adsense code to aviod easy detection. I appealed to google but they gave me the same lame response they always do, but the thing they let on was that it was a massive amount of ips clicking in one short burst, so the technology exists for people to destroy your adsense account. Be careful people this could be a growing concern.

Not that the same thing can't happen to html pages, way less likely though and if it does it's usually a problem with your hosting and not code you are running. Dynamic pages, especially those done with php are way more likely to get hacked. All my adsense sites are static. Set it and forget it.

Kristy, take in consideration that Adsense team can ban a guy that is not the offender here Anyone can copy a code and do this into another site.

Just my 2 cents.

Article Dashboard is a template-driven application using very-easily modified scripts.

Left as-is, it will get hacked every time. There are a number of things, however, that can make it pretty safe.

So document it. Take screen shots. Get ahold of Adsense and show them what happened.

Google will shut them down. And they may or may not give you the money. If you are a low volume site probably not.

Be sure you can prove ownership of the domain.

Does not surprise me at all that hackers are doing this, going off subject slightly with my twitter account which has almost 20K followers someone hacked that and started tweeting porn would you believe, I really cant understand why people want to do this, You get me?

The articledashboard script has been widely known for easy access to hackers, and for some time now.

I'm sorry you found out too late.

It happened to me long ago when I was running a test of the system for them.

Suffice to say they have not been very good at patching up the program.

Contact Google with the new AdSense code and inform them that this is not your code. The code may either be someone else's or the hacker's himself: Google will make a decision about whether or not to disable the account.
