Hey Warrriors, Say, I am on TOP # 5 on google.com for a keyword search. I just change the meta tag, meta description and added some more keywords. Will this effect my current SERP? |

I seriously doubt the tags will have any effect at all. As for monkeying with a top 5 page, I would exercise great caution, like maybe change one word at a time. Keyword density may affect things. Do an analysis of the top 4 using an online SEO tool, and compare with your page first, to see how you compare in terms of keyword density and other variables. I think domaintools has such a tool

No one really knows for sure. Supposedly Google mostly ignores your meta information in terms of rankings. If it were a not-to-competitive keyword I'd probably just go ahead and make changes. If it was a major keyword, I'd think very hard about it before making any kind of change. You must be doing something right if you're #5, no reason to screw that up.

Google still value Meta information for some sites. I guess the best way is to do a slight tweeks to your meta information and observe the outcome. Don't overhaul it.

Meta keywords are no longe used in SEO, this is an old practice that is sometimes more harmful than beneficial considering that not only the Meta Keywords don’t give you anymore additional value and that misuse of them my get you penalized for over-optimization… not to mention all the hard work you did to find those rare keywords, why on earth would you want to advertise them to everybody?Meta Keywords are a small deal; the real thing comes with your Meta Description

I don´t think there is a shortcut to no. 1 by changing the meta tags. Just keep building backlinks.
