Too many beginners don’t understand the importance of off-page SEO. Oftentimes they research the keyword, write and publish an optimized page to their website and end the process there. Following through with off-page optimization is vital. Here is an example of how to continue the SEO process after you’ve published a new page to your site. 1. Rewrite a similar and original content article for EzineArticles and link back to the new web page. 2. Rewrite again and submit to your second favorite article directory. 3. Produce a related YouTube video, rewrite the article again and use it for the video description. Include the page’s URL at the beginning of the description. (You should also consider doing another description and submitting to Yahoo Video.) 4. Submit the URL to your favorite social book marking sites. There are more steps which could be taken, but I think that 99% of site publishers don’t even do these. |

Good advice, Steve. I would add that you must continue to add a few bookmarks and blog postings here and there continually. It is a job that is never done!

It also helps to mention that the social bookmarking sites and links should be dofollow if you want it to have any real effect.

Like Jerry West sais in his book 'Google's Best Practises', at least 88% of your rankings are due to backlinks. If you want to rank for good keywords you NEED authoritative backlinks. Also, having a lot of high PR backlinks will solidify your rankings more. You can check out my WSO if you are looking for authoritative dofollow backlinks. |

Don't worry about "dofollow", or the PageRank of the page sending you the link. Just concentrate on the cache date of the page. If it is a week fresh, get the link. Getting Googlebot back to your page over and over and over again for indexing is a great thing and my testing shows that many "nofollow" links pass link juice.

Good post. It is important to emphasise the bulk of your efforts to offpage SEO. A lot of newbies tend to spend too much time altering their site and adding new plugins and wondering why they aren't ranking. Unfortunately to get good rankings you need to spend the bulk of your time building backlinks using various different methods and from various different places. Cheers, |
