Submitting to Software Directories for Backlinks

Have you heard of creating free software like screensavers or
really easy Firefox extensions and submitting them to software
directory sites like Download.com, etc? Is there an easy way to do
this? I know Michelle MacPhearson follows this method in her "30 Minute Backlinks" program.

Yes, that can be done. In addition to the "30 Minute Backlinks" report you mentioned, there is a WSO on that subject by Joel Chue under the title, "#2 Spot in Google with 99.5 Million Competition," posted 08-01-2009. He tells how to create 3 kinds of products and submit them to software directories.
