Default Over Doing SEO/Damaged My Site

Hi,

I am a novice when it comes to SEO. I tried using SEO All in One Pack and a Title Tags plugin for my Wordpress blog. Prior to those plug ins my site showed as

MyDomain.com
Description...........................
mydomain.com

on google when i searched for mydomain.

After using the SEO plugins it showed as

keyword keyword keyword keyword
Description
mydomain.com

I feel the mash up of key words doesn't look good on google. I disabled the plugins, but the site still shows that way on google. It has been a week and my site is still cached with an old design, and showing with all the keywords. Was this a product of adding too many keywords (40 or so) in my case with the All in One pack to pages, or do I just need to wait.

I have a pinging plugin that seems to work, I also have a sitemap one that seems to be working. Of course, I might be missing something.

Also, in terms of the site map. On webmaster tools it shows like 49 urls submitted, 3 indexed. Is that normal?

Give it some time, it should revert to your old keyword text, from before
you had the plugins installed. Google has different considerations as far
as when each site description should update, it just takes a bit more time
for some sites.

Hi jyoung4,

Do I understand you to say that you made page titles that included a list of 40 keywords?

Sounds like there was no problem with the plugins, only how you used them. In most cases you want to target just one keyword per page. Your plugins allow that keyword to be prominently present in the page titles and URLs.

If you attempt keyword stuffing you are sabotaging your own efforts. I recommend you try again, but next time keep a laser target on a single keyword for each post. After you master the skill of targeting a single keyword you can try your hand at cleverly targeting 2 or 3 at a time.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you had troubles, and Google's cache of your site will change - it does just take time.

However there are a few things you can do to help it along:

Here's an article on how to set up the All-in-one-SEO-Pack plugin:

http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...ne-seo-plugin/

And Google Webmaster's Tools is a fantastic resource to help you manage your site, identify problems and correct them.

Through GWT you can re-submit your sitemap which may speed up the time it takes for Google to adjust its cache - but before doing that I'd suggest you go through the first article and get your site set up properly.

Here's a short video on Google Webmaster's Tools:

http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...masters-tools/

Hope those links help,

Cheers,

Martin.

Thank you for the responses. I assumed I was using them incorrectly. All I did was fill in the home title, home description, and home keywords(this one with about 30-40 keywords), and left the other settings on default.

Thanks for the advice on targeting keywords dburk, and the links Abledragon.

I think thats exactly it. I use the SEO plugin on my site, and i've had a fair share of success with it, I actually really recommend that plugin. 40 keywords? YES, thats spamming. I would recommend still using it but use it moderately as you would the keyword tag in html code on any site.

Recently I started using tags and filling in the keywords in the SEO plug in that I had installed a while ago. I had been just writing posts developing content but then I got to reading about SEO and thought that I should apply some of what I have learned. I am not sure I have seen a difference yet as far as visitors, but I really think it is a good Idea.

One of the other things that I have read is when you install a jpeg into your posts you should fill in the information as far as title and description into the jpeg. I just go into the jpeg in the Edit Media section and edit the jpeg adding in a title and description that is relavant to the post picture and post that I am writing.

I have to say that there is more to writing post on a blog than just writing the post itself. There are so many other things to tweek for optimization and being new I have probably only scratched the surface.

SEO is one of those things you learn over time, in addition to that, Google really likes to change things up , so one day you may be #1 and the next #100 , but if you keep on building things, you'll eventually stabilize.

Actually, you can learn the crucial fundamentals directly from Google, FOR FREE. Most people don't know this but Google put out a guide in .pdf format entitled, "Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide" You can find it at, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Webmasters/Site owners Help. I strongly urge you not to take SEO as a shot in the dark type of approach; I promise your competition will eat you alive!

Learn the fundamentals and then move on from there. You'll learn plenty from the seasoned Warriors who do IM fulltime!
