Keyword with apostrophe

I have a 2 word keyword that has alot of searches and low competition, but it has an apostrophe in the first word. The same 2 word keyword without the apostrophe has a slightly lower number of searches, but alot more competition. Example: Men's Hat vs. Mens Hat. My question is, will I be competing against the keyword without the apostrophe as well or just the one with. How does Google handle this for SEO? Thanks in advance for the help.
