Would you give up 1 days worth of adsense revenue to change someones life?

I recently learned something that I never knew, something I've never even thought about... there are a billion people on our planet that don't have access to clean safe drinking water and 4,500 kids will die today from water-related illnesses.

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war... now I know you are asking, what does this have to do with Google Adsense, well...

The most profound realization that I had was that just $20 could give clean, safe water to 1 person for 20 years. The reason this was so profound to me was that just one of my websites, which is monetized by Google Adsense makes $20 per day. So that $20 that I made doing absolutely nothing, while checking my revenue from the comfort of my home could drastically change someones live in Ethiopia for 20 years.

So, I'm wondering, would you give up just one day. One day of your revenue from Adsense to change someones life?

I stumbled across all of this information because this September 12th is my birthday and I've decided to give up gifts for my birthday and have my friends and family donate to a company called charity: water which gives 100% of donations to developing wells in developing nations.

In fact I'd recommend that you watch the video, its a truly remarkable example of how to use video to convey your message and tell an engaging story in your marketing.

My goal, is to raise $5,000 this September which will build a well and drastically effect the lives of 250+ people.

An example is the occasional cause for donating clothing to those poor people you see on TV. You are at best making them look silly with the "I`m with stoopid" logo on the T-shirt and, more importantly, you are damaging the economy of that country. Many people in those countries are just getting enough to live on ( a meal of rice a day) by making clothes. So what you thought was generous is actually going to put them out of business.

As for the water, many countries have enough resources, they just cant use them. The world bank or IMF wont give them a loan to improve their distribution. They cant take water out of the river because they were "conned" by some international agreement (Nile water rights). Ethiopia is one of the Nile sources but is not allowed to use that water and thus the countries residents end up drinking from those polluted puddles.

While I admire anybodys cause, the real reason of those long term problems are extreme capitalism and selfish politics.

I was with you until your conclusion. Everywhere you look capitalism has brought prosperity and freedom. Those countries where so many people suffer are the victims of your demented ideology.

Capitalism is based on economic principals that work. In fact the science of economics was founded from the research on how the American colonies managed to prosper so effectively in the 18th century.

The early settlements were all based on centralized planning and control and they all failed miserable. In desperation, while facing imminent starvation, one settlement leader decided to let each man become totally responsible for his own families survival. The result was such a dramatic turnabout that news quickly spread to other struggling settlements and American style capitalism was born. Eventually, word got back to Europe and inspired a mass pilgrimage to this new land of prosperity.

The funny thing about "principles", they are true in all situations at all times (otherwise they are not a principle). Sadly, in those poor countries where people are suffering so, the wonderful principals of capitalism are treated as taboo by the their power hungry leaders. The people there are denied the knowledge of simply effective principals and the result is mass starvation and permanent destitution.

A smuggled copy of Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations" and Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" would probably help those oppressed people more than any loans to their governments could ever hope to achieve. "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."
