Okay... I'd love to think that I'm an SEO genius but I honestly have no idea how this happened... I put up a simple one page site for our horse trainer. I got him a domain name but it's actually redirected to a folder on a site where I store works in progress. The page has been up for less than 30 days. I even misspelled one of the words in the title tag... lol I have done nothing to get this site ranked... no video... no back links except a mention on Facebook... nothing. Yet... when I type his keyword phrase into google it comes up in the 3rd or 4th position on the first page! Granted... there isn't a ton of competition but we're only concerned with people looking for horse training in our area. Go ahead... google the phrase: eastern iowa horse trainer You should find Dream Horse Trainer very high on the first page. Now... tell me why? LOL Evil genius or dumb luck? Tsnyder |

Dont make the mistake I have. BE SURE TO log out of your gmail.com account. Otherwise, google changes the results around how often you've clicked your own site... and it ranks it higher on your PC In other words, the SERPS change for better personal usability. But likely you did rank as its an easy term. |

Watch Store... Yeah... I said that in my OP. I kinda figure that's what it's about. Still... that phrase perfectly fits what we're trying to accomplish and delivers close to 50K results. I'm happy to be ahead of nearly all of them... Tsnyder |

Well done. You are #4 from here at this moment. I just read an article yesterday about people concentrating on specific state areas for businesses, so this kind of encourages me as I have a friend that owns a local business I am just getting ready to help her rank locally with. She would be delighted to rank in 30 days.........very delighted I am hoping |

Don't get too excited yet, it appears that keyword almost never gets searched. When you say "delivers close to 50K results" you are referring to how many pages Google estimated contain all of the words in your search somewhere on the page, but not in any particular order or even within the same paragraph. | |

| Note the quotes ... in the search In Quotes .... ... and that would be this thread. Extremely low competition long tail. Awesome if people are actually searching that term. If they arent - kinda .... whats the point? Do him another favor, hook him up with some long tails that get search volume, andhelp him build a LIST |

Sometime long tail do have enormous searches, but that is very rare occasion... However, if combined a lot of long tail keywords may give you some nice decent search as well |

LOL, so the actual "search" only has one result. Hmm, lesson learnt for when checking keyword positioning?

The extent of your luck is to be measured by the traffic this particular search term is able to bring in. Long-tails can be and are extremely useful in terms of getting fine-targeted visitors, but then again there's always the danger of balancing on the verge of obscurity.

I agree with everything that's been written above... not much competition. But... and this is not my philosophy... I talked with him about list building and all that but he only wanted a page so he could send people there from his own off line efforts. I did it for him for free so I'm not going to knock myself out! He picked the phrase... I did the keyword research and reported the results to him. I'm just surprised that it came up that high even with the low competition. Tsnyder |
