Quick question on split testing display url's... Is the best way to create a separate campaign for each URL you want to split test, then set up day parting for every other hour - but everything else in each campaign is identical? I'd appreciate guidance from anyone who does url split testing in adwords - Thanks! |

Do you mean testing different domain names entirely such as www.mydomain.com against www.someotherdomain.com? You could do it the way your suggest. No need to set up day parting. Google will only show one of the ads pretty much evenly if you select Rotate in your campaign settings. But you said testing display URL which makes me think www.mydomain.com against www.mydomain.com/something. If that's the case, why bother creating a separate campaign? I don't see the point or the benefit and just making more work for yourself. |

Yes - completely different domains. www.MySite.com vs. www.JohnDoe'sSite.com. So, they can't be in same ad group. But if in different ad groups and not day parted, they compete with each other for position on the identical keywords. So...that's why I was thinking of day parted campaigns. Does that bring to mind any easier ways than day parting and separate campaigns? |

I'd leave everything as is, separate groups and no need to day part which is only at the campaign level anyway and wouldn't add any benefits doing so. Let the system rotate the ads as it normally would do.

Sorry for the late reply - thanks for you idea... Honestly, I'm a bit confused. If I have two seperate adgroups - with everything identical except the url - both running the same bid amount - and the exact same ad - will they not be competing head-to-head on the keyword search? Or, Google will give one preference over the other -- especially if one domain is interpreted as being more relevant by Google? |
