Green questions on RSS and pinging

I've recently added RSS to my static site pages but I'm still pretty green to some of the techniques of pinging and taking advantage of RSS feeds and aggregators. So I hope I can phrase my question in a way that makes sense!

Can I use old content pages/articles that have been published on my site and in article directories with these methods? Basically, I ping the pages and send the feeds to RSS aggregators.

Or is it better to use only content that is still original and just published?

Ping and aggregate all of them, old and new content.

Some Warriors have pretty neat strategies for RSS... maybe they can share some light on these techniques.
