Hi everyone, this is my first post, but I have already read so much great info thanks to all you warriors out there! I am interested in responding to yahoo questions within my niche only for the purpose of building backlinks, not necessarily to drive traffic. do I have to put a link in every post, or will the backlink happen automatically as it is attached to my profile, which is not shown in the post. I know this is a real newbie question, but I would really appreciate an answer. |

Certainly you have to include you link at the source area of every post you make. Its great for building link, but you have to be careful you can get easily banned. Read there rules first.

As far as I know, Yahoo Answers is a nofollow site (unless something recently changed). But this doesn't mean that the links have no value they can still be used as "link juice".

I find it's best not to always have links in your answers as people tend to believe your answers more if there's no link attached with it.

Hey there Tea_lover2, It's my understanding that Yahoo Answers uses the "nofollow" tag on links included in the Q&A section, which means they don't pass on PageRank to your site and aren't indexed by Google as backlinks. So while the site is great for sending traffic, you may need to consider other strategies for building backlinks. EDIT - Whoops, sorry Mark. Didn't see your post. |

I agree that yahoo has a no-follow tag on their links, but the whole thing is still a great strategy to drive some traffic to your site/blog.

You have to get your Yahoo Answers account up to Level 2, before the link in source box will be clickable. According to my site logs I do get traffic directly from the answers. Try to make sure your answers get picked as Best Answer. |

The links are nofollow but you will get traffic. Especially if you can present yourself as an expert or authority.

Well, you can answer related questions and add your link in the resource part. Though the Yahoo! links are nofollow, you can get some traffic from that if your content really helps. I also find that, many link I posted get indexed by google now.

I am just wondering if my observation is correct. posting in Yahoo answers with good answers will and being selected as the best answer will make your source or link dofollow. I saw some top contributor to have links enabled. |

I also use yahoo answers to drive traffic to some of my niche sites. Yahoo may be "no follow" now, but it is still a great way to get traffic from people looking for solution (answer) to their problems. Earlier it was possible to leave an anchor text linking back to your website using the profile comment. Unfortunately, it is not possible. You may want to read this article. I was reading something a day or two ago that Google has stopped paying attention to the nofollow tag. It never was a serious impediment to usage though. Yahoo never paid attention to it and Google has always counted it, but gave it lesser value. From what I read, Google isn't paying attention to it any more though.

Does anyone know if your back link still counts with Google, if you shorten the link using TinyUrl or another similiar service? I don't want to post big, long ugly links to my blog posts, but I do want to make sure that when I post a link, Google counts it as a link for me. Thanks! |

It may not be the best seo practice to use shortened urls. I think the best method is to use 4 to 5 words comprising your keywords. e.g http: // mydomain. com/this-is-my-keyword However, THE most important thing is your content. If the content is good with relevant title, Google and other search engines may not mind the url too much. Just my 2 cents Lian | |

With all the talk about Matt Cutts and his comment that google now ignores nofollow tags, you'd think that links from yahoo answers are good for link juice. The key would be to keep links in sources when they are not directly relevant to the answer. |

From what I read is that you have to post your link in relevant answers and not that often. Because Yahoo can ban links which are posted often. Cheers ! |
