Ive seen a few discussions on this forum on the topic of search engine rankings, and also the Google dance. So, I thought I would throw this in here as well because it is pretty cool!! As some of you may be aware Google has proposed a new algorithm called 'Google Caffeine'. It has not yet gone live, but is available for testing out so they gain feedback. You can actually compare your site rankings between the old (current) Google algorithm and what your rankings would look like with the new proposed algorithm, side by side - very interesting! Google / Google Caffeine Comparison by BlackDog.ie My results: One of my sites would jump from no.5 to no.3 Another site would jump from no.6 to no.2 My third site would drop from no.6 to no.11 Feel free to share yours as well, I just find it interesting to know what 'could be' (although im not exactly sure in what ways the algorithm differs). Enjoy! |

IMO Google is trying to give the user fresh content while still keeping authority sites at the top. I'm not sure how they'll ever do this. But imo this is their goal. If you create quality sites with quality content you'll always do well though. ![]() Zach |

Google has already been doing this for several years. It was first disclosed in a New York Times interview with a senior Google engineer back in 2006. It's call QDF - Query Deserves Freshness. | |

Thanks Kaka for sharing this info! Actually I've heard about 'Google caffeine' but frankly speaking my idea is not fully clear about it.

Gives some quite quirky results. For some search terms the numbers of sites returned are significantly different (millions of sites), but I cannot see any pattern.

I have read and heard that one of the drivers behind Google's algorith change is to decrease the time taken for their results to br retrieved! (you can see this in the top right when you search) One huge change ive noticed is that the google 'images' results are not there - i think this is great because the images are currently pushing my sites lower down the page.. |
