Let's say i'm promoting a "how to grow taller" e-book. What traffic would you rather have. 1) Traffic from people searching "How to grow taller" and other related keywords. OR 2) Traffic from social media which is probably more curious lookers than actual buyers. When people take the time to search something that means their serious about finding an answer to their problem. Most have an underlying reason for searching; even if they don't think they'll buy. I don't deal with social media very much; so i'm really not qualified to answer this question. But i've always understood that social media traffic was un-targeted. Maybe i'm wrong. ![]() Anyway I don't think you can ever beat SEO for targeted traffic. Zach |

It's not hard to run both, if your doing seo by producing keyword rich relative and valuable content much of that can be tied into social networks. Meaning you can post this content on facebook, start groups around your content, etc... This is IN addition to any social media work you might do if you were running an exclusive social media campaign. Not to mention some media sites are hard not to call a social network, i.e. youtube. So it's pretty easy to tie them together. | |

I've sold millions through search traffic and a big fat 0 from social media traffic, although to be fair I haven't used social media too much, I gave up quickly when I wasn't getting any results.

Search traffic is by far the better in term of sales generation. Whereas social media traffic is very good for building list via squeeze page, where sales can be pitched later.

Search traffic performs much better than Social traffic. If someone actually is searching for a product, then they are highly targeted and ready to buy - Hot Lead. If someone stumbles across your product in social networking and are interested in your niche - Warm lead. If someone buys out of curiosity and a good sales page - Cold lead. |

| HyperActive Warrior War Room Member | SEO has been proven time and again to deliver. However, I have to say woe betide any of us who ignore Web 2.0 and its social engine. One of my IM friends, Holly Mann of Honest Riches fame, now gets upwards of 10% of all her new opt in traffic from a social media. I have another friend who built up over 7,000 Twitter followers and pulls in a stack of money. In fact I have asked him to create a product to teach his success....whether my persuasion will work....is another story! So do both, expect the majority of sales via SEO but be aware, keep testing, developing and tweaking. If there is one thing all of us in the IM space know, its that things can change so quickly. Well, according to me both the traffic is good but the traffic which we will get through SEO is very relevant and also good in terms of good, relevant and quality backlinks. Also, the traffic that we get through SEM is good but only if we get quality wise as it should be beneficial in terms of getting good revenue. Thanks!! |

I would say seo, those are people looking, versus social media is people who happened to find.
