In my opinion.. (lots will have different ones - but this works for me)

Searches: 1000 a month mimimium - per major keyword
Compeditors: Google search "keyword" is a rough guide 100k max
Money: as much as possible :-) (but the ROI must be 20% plus)

More importantly than the numbers though .. 1) Is it a 'hair on fire' niche 2) Are there major sites high in the SERP's that you will have to overcome to get decent traffic?

Hello, In a Nutshell:

How many searches a day?

Using the Google Adwords Keywords Tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal :
- Set it to USA only
- Type in Key Phrase/s
- Select 'Exact Match' (very important)

I only consider those that are at LEAST 1,000 searches/month using these parameters

How much competitors?

Go to Google
To find the number of competitors, type in the search box your "keyphrase" (yes, with the " ").

- As a rule of thumb, this number should be under 25,000.
- Then, you want to try and analyse the top 10 site in the search results for your keyword. If the top 10 contain authority sites such as wikipaedia, ebay, amazon, or any other site Google would consider has 'authority', it would be tough to rank for this keyword.

How much money?
You will only know once you get traffic and test the market, to see whether it is a hungry market.

Hi Itaydressler,

Forget about all this data, it's totally senseless. As long as there are competitors and the people in this market is buying stuff, that’s all you need to know.

Don’t worry about how many searches the niche has to have.

I would like to say there are difference between general keywords and money keywords. The above data might be nice for money keywords but would not be suitable for general keywords.

Thats poor market research. Obviously you look to see if its a hungry market, but if you dont know your data you are going in blind.
