Domain Aging

Can domain aging be corrected if the information is wrong?

A domain name which is 6 years old (having a site for 6 years), and has been listed in way back machine since only 2007, appears to have a domain aging of only two years, using SEO tools.

Since the info is actually incorrect, is there anything that can be done?

If you are worried about Google then they are a domain registrar and they have access to the underlying data. Do a WHOIS search on the domain name and see what that says. The 'way back machine' is by no means a complete record.

Not sure what you mean by google being a domain registrar.

The WHOIS information is correct.

I contacted the developer of the software that pulled the data saying that the domain aging is 2 yrs (instead of 6). They pointed me to archive.org.

BTW the domain has not changed hands.

And yes to address your original comment ... yes the concern is google. This domain is struggling to get rankings on keywords that it SHOULD in theory rank well for, locally. (It's a brick & mortar business).

It appears as though the incorrect information is COMING FROM archive.org.

Hi Jenny,

You need to respectfully point the software developer to your the whois data and tell them they have a bug in their application. Archive.org is a useful tool, but they certainly are not the authoritative source for domain age.

They could refer to that information as your oldest record in the WayBackMachine, but not as domain age.
