Default How Easy/Difficult it is to overthrow a .Gov site sitting in the First page in Google?

I found out a Keyword that seems to be good the only problem is there are 4 .gov and one wiki
site sitting in the first page with some 300 backlinks each.

How Easy/Difficult it is to overthrow a .Gov/Wiki site sitting in the First page in Google?

How old are they? Do they have the keyword in the title, h1, bold, italic, or url?

What is the quality of their incoming links? Do they have the keyword in the anchor text?

What is the quality of the sites linking to them?

Stumblerum.....

The .gov site is 'niddk.nih.gov'.

It has about 308 to this particular page.

Not many Keyword targeted Anchors are there.

But the Keyword is both in Title and URL.

The same site's pages Ranks first, second and sixth in the first page of google.

I have some SEO experience but I am asking the question here because this is the
first time i am facing this situation....Answers from experts will be appreciated.

It can be done, as long as you're not trying to beat niddk.nih.gov for the term "niddk.nih.gov" or something. You'll need to build a great amount of trust and authority.

I find .gov sites can be quit easy to beat as they dont actively link, they just rank naturally. Usually they dont have a very good density of the targetted keyword in the anchor text, so if you build good anchor text liks to your site you can beat them eventually.

How old is your site?

I would certainly attempt this one with parasite hosting. A new domain would take a little longer, but certainly could get there.

Hi ebooksmaster,

If I were you I would go for it. I have "overthrown" much more popular .Gov websites with fairly modest effort. I think you will find it easier than you think, it is a commonly held notion that .gov TLDs hold more weight, but my own experience indicates that their reign can easily topple with the right strategy for your coup.

Haha, I like the coup analogy. And yes, it's not as if they have a permanent #1 spot just because of the .gov TLD, don't be afraid of that. If you can make your site more relevant with more (and better) backlinks, it's totally possible...and likely...that you can outrank them.

With 4 .gov and one wiki site on the first page it's very likely that the keyword in question isn't a buying keyword but an informational one. In other words, people searching on that term are looking for free information, not to buy something. You will probably have better success moving to a related, but buying oriented, keyword.
