I am seeking the collective wisdom of members here to better determine what my first Adsense focused domain (at last) should be. Assuming the COM extension is unavailable and the keyword phrase is "some blue widget" which of the above available domains would you choose and why? Any input is appreciated. Carlos |

Wow! I didn't know blue widgets were that hot. Almost 1000 global searches a month. btw. I'd go with the second option. |

I'll go with the second one also if that is not available I would try the org extension.

I will almost always go with a .com version but in this case I went with the .net. I'm not a fan of unnecessary words and I think it's better to keep the url as short and simple as possible. Try to think of some additional variations that keep most of your desired keywords as well as allow you to grab a .com: Discountbluewidgets.com, naughtybluewidgets.com, somediscountwidgets.com, superwidgets.com, you get the point. I did a search for "mens weight loss", keeping to a three word term similar to the domain you are looking at. Almost all of the results had "men" or "weight loss" as part of the domain but there was no "mensweightloss.com/net... " something to keep in mind. |

I went for the .com (since .com is king), but the .net looks pretty smart. The .com is a bit long, but I don't think Google minds that too much.

You lose a lot of google love if you have more then your keywords in the domain. I would go with the .net myself. Actually I would do both and see which one wins out. I have .nets that do well in google. Kevin |

Thanks so much for the input you all. I was leaning toward the second one...somebluewidgetinfo.com so I think that is the one I will go with. Glad to hear that this came out the winner in this poll. Great affirmation that I had chosen a decent domain name. By the way Kevin...how would you practically go with both domains? You mean as in registering both and then filling them with the same content? Would that not be considered spammy by Google? Carlos |

Interesting how no one went with the hyphenated name. Google's own Matt Cutts once said that hyphens don't matter and that sometimes it's even a good idea to use them as in the domain, expertsexchange.com which Google might mistake for "expert sex change" serving up ads for...well...expert sex change rather than experts exchange if the hyphens were not in there. Some of us have been talking on another thread where it seems that hyphens truly don't matter yet there is a distinct aversion to them as domain names. Interesting but I guess better for those who don't mind using hyphenated domain names. Why is .com better by the way? What makes it better? I don't think Google really cares these days. They realize like everyone else that .coms are hard to come by. I doubt they penalize sites just because they can't get a good com these days. That would be foolish. As far as searchers are concerned they don't rightly care what the domain is. They just click on search results where the domain doesn't matter. And then they might bookmark where again...the domain doesn't matter. They click on a bookmark and it just goes to whatever domain is saved. So why is .com better? Is that another of those long held beliefs about SEO that has no real search world basis? Just curious. Carlos |

I just read something from someone named Jonathon Ledger that has me going back to thinking an exact match domain is better so I think I will go for the .net instead. Once I build up a few Adsense sites making some money I will do some more experimenting. For now I will just do things conservatively so the .net is it. I'll register it tomorrow. Didn't have time to get to it today. Carlos |

I would go with the second option. I don't like URLs with hyphen. |

I would go for the first one - but it looks like "that's just me"
