I've wondered lately about the usefulness of converting some of my articles into VIDEO articles.
The way I see it, if we post articles on EZA and web 2.0 sites, we want some direct human traffic of course, but it can be most useful for SEO purposes when linking back to our "main hub" or "money site". As for videos, unless they are very entertaining, we won't get much views or human visitors to our sites from them, but they could very well still be useful for SEO. Yet I wonder if there is a minimum number of views required before Google and other SE pass on link juice? Do you think they are worth the effort? (For sales page, list building, and such sure they are, but speaking from a purely SEO, backlinking perspective) Thanks |

Views will not count towards linkjuice, lots of views just means there MIGHT be a chance someone might pass it on eg to a forum and that will give you linkjuice. But you can't rely on that alone so to get a video high up is simply just to build it backlinks.

I know since Google loves Youtube (I wonder why... oh yeah they bought it) it doesn't take many backlinks to the video to make it rank.
My question is the other way around: if the backlinks we get from Youtube and other video sites in general is worth the effort of doing the video in the first place. I don't expect a lot of views, in fact I expect few views with the niches I tend to do the videos for. I'm looking more for backlink juices from the video sites since they'll link back to my main site. Usually video sites are high PR sites and it's another kind of link, so it might very well be worth the effort. Then again, maybe not. I wonder if someone in here has tested it. |

Absolutely worth doing. Youtube vids can rank great in Google search results too. I also read earlier this year that youtube itself now gets more searches than Yahoo, so think about it ;-)

I can tell you about one test that I recently ran. I have a page in a competitive niche that I'm trying to get the #1 ranking for. I'm currently at 4, and it's taken a bunch of backlinks to get me there. I started my link building in July, and for about 6 weeks now, I've been stuck at the #4 spot, even though I have more backlinks than the top 3 combined. I figured that a lack of quality backlinks could be the culprit here, so I decided to try something out. I submitted a youtube clip of something very popular that had happened on TV that day. I was able to record this from the TV to my PC, uploaded it to youtube, and lucked out, as I was one of the first to get this video up. In the beginning of the description is a link back to my page. The video now has over 600,000 views in 16 days. Even crazier, it has 1750 backlinks to the page. I know that YouTube is no follow, but there are those who claim that no follow links still do count (albeit less), and this page is extremely powerful. 16 days later, where is the page that I'm still trying to push up the ranks in google? Spot #4, hasn't moved. I'm hoping it's just a matter of 16 days not being long enough, but I would have hoped for at least a rise to #3 by now. Hope this sheds some light on your question. | |

It sure does shed some light...
Or course one case study is not enough, but still. At least you got TON of views from the video itself. Congrats! |
