Default Does domain age pass with a 301 redirect?

I am helping a local company redesign their website. They would like to change their domain and redirect to a better keyword loaded domain.

The old domain is over 10 years old. I am aware that page rank and link juice will pass with the 301 but what about the aged benefit of the old domain?

I don't think it would pass because each has a seperate DNS record, which is what Google checks when ranking a site. Not 100% sure, it is an interesting question though.

high chance it does not carry over.

take 301 redirect as this situation where a child inherits the father's wealth, but certainly the child does not inherit his age as well

Why would the age need to be transferred? Age is not a ranking factor, so as long as the backlinks and pagerank are transferred, you are good.

agree, domain age on its own isnt that important, but it may well feed into a "trust" factor that is.

as to whether it passes via 301, it might, we recently did this with an 11 year old domain (PR1) into a 3 year old domain (PR3) and the results were definitely positive.

the domains were related keyword-wise though.

How is age not a ranking factor? I know no one knows for sure but it sure seems to me it would be.

These domains are keyword related... I am leaning slightly towards doing it because the clients want it. Although on the Google webmaster forum they overwhelmingly advised against it for the reason I stated.
