Does No-Follow .edu link will be counted ?

Recently I found couple of edu links where I was planning to put my website links but most of them seems to be no-follow. I was in two mind if no-follow edu links are considered in search engine or not ?

Yes, NOFOLLOW links will be still counted as a vote, but the value of it will not be passed.. So, it is better not to waste time there

if you're already there, might as well leave a link. Google isn't everything and nofollow is their baby. Bing, yahoo and that crazy chinese search engine that keeps popping up in my stats could care less about nofollow.
