It's suggested to leave no more than 2 backlinks.

But, I was wondering if it might be better to only have 1

Any thoughts on this?

Does 1 have more strength? and/or look less spamy?

Hi jimmy506,

Link juice is divided up equally among on the links on the page, so fewer links means the remaining links will have that much more juice.

Another thing to consider is that fewer links are less likely to provoke the webmaster into treating it as spam and deleting it.

I never really understood how the "link juice" thing worked. I've heard the term thrown around. I'm embarrassed to say, I never really understood it though.

It makes sense that "1" link would be tolerated more too.

Can I ask you this: Would you recommend linking to my main site or would it be better to mix it up and sometimes link to maybe another web 2.0 property that contains a link to my site.

If you really want to focus on one keyword then its best to use the packet all on one keyword, its only 30 links remember. Too much mixing around couls possibly dilute your potential serps rankings for your keyword so its best just to blitz one keyword phrase in my opinion.

You're welcome, I have to do that too. Just focus as much as you can on the anchor text as this is where the main power of backlinking lies.

Also, it may be also worth pinging your site to sites such as pingler.com but please use this sparingly as your IP could get banned. Just use it once every few hours or so and it should hepl get your profile URL indexed.
