Default Could someone answer me these "301 redirect" questions for me?

Hi, I have a few questions about a 301 redirect I have in place.

First, I have a whole domain that is 301 redirected to my main site, I did this because I wasnt ready to put content on it and was told to do it.

So if I take off that 301 redirect can that site ever reach normalcy? Meaning can it be fully functioning site, ranking in the search engines etc.

My second question is, I just signed up for 1waylinks.net, this entails me creating a self hosted blog, and then others blog posts are posted to mine, and my blog posts to theirs.

So my new blog, on the site that was prevouisly redirected, will have hundreds of post with thousands of outgoing links on it. If I 301 redirect my website with outgoing links on it, will those sites being linked to suffer any damage? Or will they still count as a backlink for them?

If I ever drop out of the program, and redirect the site back to mine, I dont want to ruin their efforts.

Phew! I dont know if I am being clear. I want to undo my 301 redirected site, get some links to it, use it for the 1waylinks.net program and then eventually get a new blog to use for 1waylinks.net and 301 redirect that old site back to my new site. Will that be okay?

And thirdly, can I keep backlinking to a site or page that has a 301 redirect in place? Will it help any?

Thanks in advance!
Ashley

Hi Ashley,

All a 301 redirect does is say that SiteA has been permantly moved to SiteB.

So, over time, the search engines will start to replace all links that pointed to SiteA with SiteB.

If you decide to take the 301 off SiteA, and try to use it as a normal website, then you are going to have a really hard time trying to get SiteA ranking in the search engines. As you have been telling them SiteA is SiteB.

In my humble opinion, it would be way better to go and get a new domain and start afresh..

Hope this helps

Bruce

Thanks for the reply Bruce,

I am going to write and ask the owner of 1waylinks.net and see if he thinks it would be a problem.

I just dont want to lessen the effect of my links to their site, so maybe I will need to buy a new domain like you said.

Thanks!
Ashley
