In my keyword never ending adventure, using Google, i have a question: Searching whatever popular keyword, you see a huge ammount of pages results. BUT if you try to reach the end (using preferences to show every 100 per page), you actually go to 9-10 pages and that's it ! And you see some 800 - 900 website pages. I don't fully understand this. Why Google shows at first a huge number and then a very much less number ? thanks |

Hi cagliostro, Google, like most other search engines, limit their search queries to return no more than 1000 results. That huge number you see is just an estimate of how many pages that may theoretically match your query. They don't actually expect people to look at all of the top 1000, they are just trying to over-deliver with more results than you could ever need. |

Hi Don. I don't think so. Because if you go towards the end (8-9 page by 100 items) you will see totally irrelevent websites. I mean no competition in there. So your competition is not 23.000.000 websites but a LOT less. Less than 1000. Imho, |

Example: Google search for "web hosting new york" says 38.400.000 results 1-9 pages, at page 9 says 601-674 websites. Checking page 9 (last) half of the websites are totally irrelevent. See what i mean ? |

Are you trying to confuse me? You did a great job of making my point, so what is the part that made you say "I don't think so"?By the way, Google never uses the word "competition", nor do they list websites, they list web pages. While you may feel that the pages you find are "totally irrelevant", they do meet the criteria of your search parameters and that is why they are listed. | |
