Default I have an index.html page with good rankings, I want to change it's content, will I lose ranking?

I have an index.html page(home page) with good search engine rankings, I want to change it's content will I lose ranking? The page has good back links.

The article I have on the home page is now out of date, I want to completely change it. I am concerned that if I change anything, the page may get down graded. Will my on page seo suffer? What would you do in a situation like this.

As long as the keywords and keyword saturation are still there, it shouldn't hurt you. Google likes new content anyway so it may even give you a temporary boost in rank.

just my 2 cents.

Yes that's what I felt, I want to re-rewrite the article using the same keyword plus a few more. But have heard of strange things happening sometimes when you change a page! That's why I wanted to check with you guys first.

If you change it dramatically, it will definitely drop like a stone. Do it bit by bit.

But I would strongly suggest you keep the title of the pages the same.
Especially the positioning of the keywords in the title..
Change the title too much and you will suffer in the rankings..

Hope this helps

Bruce

Thanks for your really helpful replies guys, I'm glad I checked with you guys first. I think I will making very few changes to the page and I shan't be touching the title description and keyword location within it. I think the maxim "If it ain't broke don't fix it", may apply here.
