|  Don't worry about spammy backlinks
Hi all, another excellent video from SEOMOZ, interviewing Google engineer. SEOmoz | Whiteboard Friday - Interview with Google's Maile Ohye Check out video around 6.27, saying that backlinks will not hurt your site! Also she mentions that Google is changing its algorithm constantly, so don't get too uptight about the intricacies of SEO. Focus on the fundamentals, good content, unique titles and you're site will build up strength naturally... Hope you enjoy |

Google may not mind (or rather, be able to detect) spammy backlinks, but the site owners probably do mind. Still, thanks for sharing the video  |

Good point...I must point out that I am not encouraging people to spam other websites, all I am saying is that many people in forums worry "what if there is a backlink to my website from a spammy site etc"... I keep saying you can't be punished for backlinks because you have no control over them...I think that is what google is trying to clarify Thanks for pointing that out |

Thanks for the video.. I too believe that content matters more for SEO. It only will help to reduce the bounce-rate. Every site should satisfy the user not search engines. But still, I have a doubt on your point. Spammy backlinks won't hurt our site? I heard from many that spammy backlinks penalized their site ranking..! Somebody please explain me.. Thanks in advance...! |

Something to consider though, while backlinks themselves will not hurt your site, backlinks that disappear WILL hurt your site. I have had this happen to me a bunch. So if you do want to go with "spammy" backlinks, just make sure they don't disappear. |
